Join the Ban Party!

In honor of all things banned in Switzerland, from the construction of Minarets to kids shopping at Denner, One Big Yodel is sponsoring a ban party right here on this blog where nothing is too un-PC to mention. After all, we aren't in Kansas (or America) anymore, people.

To get you started, the Swiss newspaper, Blick am Abend, had their own "ban party" a couple of weeks ago and this is what some Swiss people they interviewed want to see banned:

*Religious pamphlets handed out on the streets (what a pain to have to tie these up with string in addition to everything else!)

*Over-crowded trains (made ever-more unfair by those stretching out their legs in 1st class)

*The Civil Engineering Department of Zurich (enough with the construction noise!)

So tell us, what would you ban in Switzerland? That pesky clock tower that goes off every fifteen minutes 24/7? People that cut in line? A skyline filled with cranes?

This is an über-democracy, so leave a comment below.

I can't wait for the smoking ban to finally go into effect.

  3. I agree with both! Let's start a petition!

I would also ban people growling at me on crowded train platforms. What is that?!

  4. SMOKING. In public, in restaurants, in cafes, everywhere. Period.

    Ban queue-cutting.
    Ban spitting.

Er... ban the use of plastic bags?

  6. I just hope the smoking thing actually WORKS. Because right now it's banned in public places, but what defines public? To me, the main train station is a public space...

  7. I want to ban the irritating club on my street and all those loud, thoughtless little ..., who after the smoking ban will be hanging around outside the door smoking and talking continuously until dawn. I will want very much to give them unsolicited advice, but maybe I will just leave a nasty passive-aggressive note for the club's manager :)

    But really.
    Ban smoking

Ban protectionist price hikes on EU wines

  9. I would like to ban adults riding those "razor" or kick scooters through the Bahnhof crowds. What makes you so important that you can't just walk like the rest of us? Oh, and also along with the smoking ban I would like to ban smoking while walking. I'm afraid my coat will one day go up in flames like the bag of feathers that it is when someone walks by me holding a lit cigarette at thigh-level.

  10. The scooters don't bother me much, what does are pushy people in general.

Agreed about smoking and walking. If they just banned smoking in crowded places like the train station this would make me happy. I've had so many ashes on my coat I've lost count.

  12. After the fiasco with my lost luggage at Christmas, I would ban the entire so-called customer service department of Swiss Air. There. Vented.

  13. Yes, what is up with the general grumpiness? Don't get that one either. See comment about the guy growling at me on crowded train platform...

Kate, customer service as we know it does not seem to exist in Switzerland.

  14. Ban Swiss German. Hochdeutsch is much more elegant and useful. Ban the insanely high cost of living. Ban $30+ entrees unless they are spectacular. Ban bland fashion. Ban banning (maybe).

  15. I know what you mean about Swiss German. It's frustrating for foreigners but we are just that, foreigners and Swiss German will keep us that way no matter how good our normal Deutsch gets! The mailwoman rang me this morning and I didn't understand a word she said. I asked her to switch to high German and I understood perfectly...

And yes, what is up with the high cost of food in restaurants? $30 for mediocre food should definitely be banned.
