My Swiss friends here are extremely patient with me.

However, my best friend here is American. Case in point, I suppose. :)Young Travelerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13002283624407053039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33066213.post-10899345959299627082009-02-19T23:03:00.000+01:002009-02-19T23:03:00.000+01:00Yeah, it would be too easy to just hang out with e...Yeah, it would be too easy to just hang out with expats all the time.Chantalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08116587046045234305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33066213.post-88305836869269134412009-02-19T20:45:00.000+01:002009-02-19T20:45:00.000+01:00That's exactly why I don't like it when people say...That's exactly why I don't like it when people say, "Hey, you're American!? I know someone else who is, too! I could introduce you too!" I usually decline their offers. If I were to accept them, I wouldn't be as integrated as I am.Michelle Glauserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01646213573761736892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33066213.post-76683818236190127742009-02-19T16:36:00.000+01:002009-02-19T16:36:00.000+01:00Yes, living here has made me realize just how luck...Yes, living here has made me realize just how lucky I am to speak English. I really never thought about it before living abroad. But we can go anywhere, for the most part, and be able to communicate. We should not take this for granted.Chantalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08116587046045234305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33066213.post-87474650467581625172009-02-19T16:22:00.000+01:002009-02-19T16:22:00.000+01:00Last week I met a French woman, who bemoaned the f...Last week I met a French woman, who bemoaned the fact that she couldn't really do any volunteer work in Thailand, because what they need are primarily English teachers, and her English isn't very good. She said I'm lucky to speak English. I admit that many places it makes traveling easier (than if perhaps my only language was Dutch or Swahili). Today my Thai friend Jack said "Speaking Thai is only useful here in Thailand." He want to come back to America to improve his English. Having a diverse group of friends opens your eyes. I too am glad that so many others learn English....Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04798357631978269992noreply@blogger.com
